Kunstenaarsboek. - In The First March of Gentlemen, Rafal Milach creates a fictitious narrative composed of authentic stories. He retells the historical children's strike in Wrzesnia in Poland from the early 20th Century, through collaged archive photographs from the 1950s and 1960. By blending these elements, he has created a new narrative, to be read as a playful metaphor for the political situation of the present. This project was created by the Deutsche Borse shortlisted photographer on the Kolekcja Wresnia residency programme in 2016. Rafal Milach (b.1977) is a visual artist, photographer, author of photobooks. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, Poland and ITF in Opava, Czech Republic, where he currently lectures. For over 10 years, Rafal Milach has been working on transition issues in former Eastern Block countries and is Co-founder of the Sputnick Photos collective. Rafal has been shortlisted for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize 2018
