The pioneering, ultramodern work plays with an artistic language in which style itself becomes content, expressed through geometrical forms, architectural lines and repetitive compositional principles. Internationally acclaimed, the Marienbad film defined an understanding of art that has affected all artistic areas and one that remains relevant to the present day. The exhibition "Last Year in Marienbad: A Film as Art" for the first time demonstrates the influence of the nouvelle vague aesthetic on the visual arts and will provide visitors with an understanding of its lasting international relevance. The Kunsthalle Bremen presents exceptional works of art from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present day (including Eugène Atget, Giorgio de Chirico, René Magritte, Gerhard Richter, Howard Kanovitz, Cindy Sherman, Robert Longo, Jeff Koons, Vanessa Beecroft, David Claerbout, Yang Fudong, Pablo Bronstein and Kota Ezawa) which will be supplemented by examples from pop culture and fashion.
