Summer Art Club: fashion

Old clothes get a new life in the Summer Art Club: fashion — a series of three workshops where families work together to create sustainable, wearable art. From tote bags to keychains and even your own bucket hat: everything is made from reused materials. Children and their caregivers discover the power of upcycling and reuse in a playful and creative way. Led by museum educator and fashion designer Tessa van den Eeden.

Each session lasts 2 hours and can be attended individually. But those who join more often will build a unique, personal collection of wearable art.

Programme

Session 1 – Make your own tote bag (August 16)
We’ll start by designing and creating a custom bag using old clothes and fabric scraps. You’ll learn how to reuse materials, work with needle and thread (or a sewing machine), and personalize your bag with fabric markers, embroidery, or buttons.

Session 2 – Keychain self-portrait (August 23)
Create a keychain to hang on your bag, using old jewelry, beads, bottle caps, and fabric. Make one per person or one together as a family — each piece reflects something about you. A fun way to express your identity and style in a small, tangible object.

Session 3 – Design your own bucket hat (August 30)
Wrap up the series by making your own bucket hat from reused fabrics. Choose your colors, decorate with markers or beads, and work together on a unique and sustainable fashion item.

Who is it for?

• Families: children (ages 6–12) together with an adult
• For creative makers and curious doers
• No experience needed — fun and imagination come first
