Opening solo exhibition Ima-Abasi Okon

On Saturday 10 May, Ima-Abasi Okon's solo exhibition will open with an inspiring and special programme, everyone is welcome! Ima-Abasi Okon’s solo exhibition brings together new and site-specific work, earlier prints and recent sound sculptures in one immersive environment. The exhibition raises questions about how ideas of improvement, used to justify the appropriation of land in settler colonialism, are still seen in today's focus on body optimisation. During the opening Senior curator Yolande Zola Zoli van der Heide and assistant curator Chala Itai Westerman will warmly welcome you in the auditorium, followed by a reading from artist Cally Spooner, who is cited in Okon's exhibition. Spooner will read from A Hypothesis of Resistance a book of five essays which attempts to resist the doctrine of performance. For our youngest visitors, we will organise a special edition of the Children's Art Club. The day will end festively with drinks in the Van Abbe café.
