Studio Woensel-West and the Van Abbemuseum have joined forces to give young people from Eindhoven a place in the museum shop. The youngsters present products they have designed and created themselves. They worked on these products at Studio Woensel-West, guided by makers from the professional field. The collection – consisting of tote bags, stickers, keychains and a magazine – is available in the Van Abbemuseum shop.
Studio Woensel-West is a creative workspace in the heart of Eindhoven’s Woensel-West district. Here, young people have the opportunity to develop their creativity, collaborate, and discover new techniques. The program includes workshops, the creation of independent work, and assignments in which personal stories and experiences are translated into art and design.
Edition 2024
During the first edition of Studio Woensel-West, the young makers developed their own product for the Van Abbemuseum shop. They were given complete freedom to use their creativity to make something they wanted to see in the shop. Their self-designed products ranged from tote bags to keychains, and from art prints to a set of playing cards.
Edition 2025
The second edition focused on the theme of home, inspired by the exhibition Homecoming. Under the guidance of Alien Mag, the young makers explored what home means to themselves and to others. They went into the neighborhood, conducted interviews, took photos and made illustrations, and followed workshops to learn new techniques. Their stories, images, and impressions came together in the magazine De Voordeur, which presents different perspectives on arriving home and feeling at home.
“We believe it is important for young people to discover their creativity. We focus on creating a safe foundation so that the young makers can experiment freely.” – Project leaders Stijn van Erp and Lian Kroes
