In the coming period, films from the exhibition THINKING OF UKRAINE will be shown in the auditorium of the Van Abbemuseum, an exhibition devoted to Ukrainian art practice during the war on display in and around the house of artist Griet Menschaert.

The films show events from the first half year under the Russian invasion. They tell of losses and findings, art and artists dealing with the realities of war, uniting and helping each other. There are 3 films on view:

More about the exhibition THINKING ABOUT UKRAINE

The exhibition is a selection of artworks by participants of the BIRUCHIY art residency 2022. The residency has been taking place in the Zaporizhia region on the Sea of ​​Azov since 2006, with artists from Ukraine and abroad. BIRUCHIY became a platform for unique interactions and exchanges. THINKING ABOUT UKRAINE is curated by Natalia Matsenko and Yuri Yefanov, and is hosted and co-curated by artist Griet Menschaert in Eindhoven.

More about Griet Menschaert

Griet Menschaert is the founder of KONT magazine, with which she stimulated special collaborations between Eindhoven creatives. Griet Menschaert has been working with Ukrainian colleagues since 2012. This exhibition also includes a work by Griet Menschaert and her friend Varya Karamushka, who still lives in Kharkiv (UA).

More about Natalia Matsenko and Yuri Yefanov

Natalia Matsenko and Yuri Yefanov (Kiev) have been working with BIRUCHIY since 2013. Natalia is an independent curator, one of her recent projects is Unfolding Landscapes (DK/BE/CH). Yuri is an artist and filmmaker, makes digital art, and was seen at Kurzfilmtage Oberhausen, among others. Together they curated Let's Talk About Something Else at Kunstmuseum Bochum (DE).
