Everything you need to know before visiting the library!

Opening hours & reservations

The library is open for visit on Wednesday and Thursday from 11:00-13:00 and 14:00-17:00, no reservation needed. On those days, it is possible to reserve a place in the library's reading room for research. There, publications, documentation and files of Library and Archive can be consulted.

Reservations can be made by submitting the form below (at least 5 working days in advance) for a time slot from 11:00 - 13:00 and/or 14:00 - 17:00 (between 13:00 and 14:00, the library is closed). Please indicate your research area and which documents and/or publications you wish to consult. Prior to your visit, you will receive a reply with final confirmation of your registration and the availability of the material.

Library reservation

For a working visit to the reading room of the library, make a reservation using the form below. Would you like to consult archive material, books and periodicals from our library? Then request it at least five working days in advance via the Literature requests or Dossier requests forms, also on this page. Confirmation

Before you visit:

  • The library is open on Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 11.00-13:00 and from 14:00-17:00. Would you like to study in the reading room? Please register using the registration form (five working days in advance).
  • Your registration is valid for one person. Are you visiting with someone else? Please register separately for each person.
  • Most books in the collection cannot be borrowed, but they can be consulted on site.
  • Let us know which documents or publications you would like to consult during your visit. We will ensure that everything is ready for you.
  • You can request up to five publications or files. Please get in touch if you would like to consult more during your visit.
  • Special or fragile publications are subject to restricted access. A library staff member can provide information about their availability.
  • You can also view and listen to audiovisual material in the library.
  • The library has laptop connections and free Wi-Fi. A kiosk computer is available as well.
  • If you have any questions before your visit, please send an email to bibliotheek@vanabbemuseum.nl. We try to respond within two working days


During your visit:

  • Finished with the material? You can leave everything on the table.
  • Scanning or copying is possible in consultation with a library staff member. Of course, fragile or valuable works are excluded. (Costs: black and white A4 €0.10 per copy; A3 €0.20 per copy. Color A4 €0.25 per copy; A3 €0.50 per copy. Scanning: €1.50 per session.)
  • Food and drink are not allowed in the library (the museum café or the museum garden are the place for that).
  • Please store coats and bags in the lockers.
  • Please be considerate of other users of the reading room: no phone calls, no meetings, and please switch off the sound on phones and laptops.
  • Do you have specific requests for your study or research? Please book a place in the study room via the website.
