Tricksters Tricked programme

The Programme

During Dutch Design Week 2010, the Tricksters Tricked exhibition will be complemented with a live layer: daily interventions will invite visitors to get their hands dirty in diverse design processes. In addition a rich program of lectures, workshops and movie screenings will elaborate on the subjects at hand.

Laboratory of Visual Analysis

Designers Maxime Morel en Lise Lefebvre will reside in the ground floor of the museum tower and offer "identity services" to the visiting audience. One can choose to undergo a short design process which will result in a personalised identity product.

Walked Lines

During the Dutch Design Week Jozua Zaagman, Jacqueline Schoemaker and Maartje Dros, three designers-researchers, will reside in the museum for a duration of five days (Saturday-Wednesday) to carry out a research workshop under the title "What is Eindhoven?". The results of this communal investigation will be presented to the public during the 'artist talks' on Wednesday. Also in the space are the mapping results the three carried out in multiple cities around Europe, allowing the visitor to trace patterns in urban identity manifestations.

Your idea of a flag

Visitors are invited to design their own flag of their 'ideal' country. Using elements from existing national flags, choices and new compositions can be made on ideological or esthetical basis. A team of seamstresses will function as the project curators, choosing flags to be produced on the spot and later mounted on the different levels in the 'tower', the high central space in the museum.

Dutch Design Lobby

BAVO prepared the installation for a Dutch Design Lobby in Eindhoven. These are informal meeting spots where creative people can enjoy a coffee and exchange exciting ideas with important people in a relaxing atmosphere.

Organised with the strategic partners of the Tricksters Tricked project at the Van Abbemuseum and the Dialogues House of ABN-AMRO, the first meetings will take place at Strijp-S. During the Dutch Design Week 1-to-1 meetings will be arranged between designers and entrepreneurs active in the former Philips factories.

The Dutch Design Lobby supports the spontaneous, interhuman relationship between designers and public-private partners. Dutch Design catalyses the development of Eindhoven and offers a unique common wealth. BAVO engages itself to mediate the dialogue on request and responsibilise stakeholders.

Everybody is kindly invited to take a fair share in the development of this crucial anchoring point to the ambition of Eindhoven to become the Dutch Design Capital.

BAVO is an independent office for cultural research. The office is headed by architect-philosophers Gideon Boie (Bruges, 1975) and Matthias Pauwels (Bruges, 1975), was founded in 2002 and is based in Rotterdam, Brussels and Pretoria. Its core business is to promote public and private partnerships in the cultural sector.

During Dutch Design Week BAVO is available to mediate discrete meetings in the Dialogues House at Strijp S everyday from 2-6pm. Appointments can be made through info@bavo.biz.

The business plan for the Dutch Design Lobby is available here.

Typographic Matchmaking

Experimental typography in the museum context

Typographic Matchmaking investigates the translation of culturally relevant messages into design products, such as lettering systems and 3D prototypes, by facilitating cross-cultural and cross-disciplinary collaborations. The workshop will concentrate on the relationships between typography and the public sphere, focusing on the museum as a potential social hub. Offering hands on experience, the workshop invites participants to develop a new reading of the museum architecture and try out their ideas and designs on the spot.

Typographic Matchmaking is a project by the Khatt Foundation.
