THE LIBRARY CATALOGUE ONLINE
Online informationportals
The library has two online information portals: the blog and the catalog. The blog is the digital portal to all the basic information of the library. Besides information on the (library) exhibitions you can find material on the architecture and history of the Van Abbemuseum, designers, poster collection. And much more. The libraryblog is also fully interactive with the librarycatalog, so you can download lots of additional information.
Instructions for finding a publication in the online catalogue
• Select the Eenvoudig zoeken (Simple Search) or the Uitgebreid zoeken (Extended Search) tab (see illustration).
• Type a search string, such as the artist’s surname or other subject, in the first field.
• In an extended search you can type additional search requirements such as the artist’s first name or some other search term. Click the Search button.
• You can further refine your search, e.g. to seek a specific author, by adding details in the third field.
• To retrieve a particular publication, it is important to specify the following data:
– Place of publication.
Note: In the case of a monograph, which will often have the artist’s name as its title, please also note the unique book number (click Details beschikbaarheid/Availability Details). The book number is stated under Barcode.
– Note if the publication has a non-standard format or type, e.g. sundry documentation, quarto size or DVD (see the Overige gegevens/Other Data field).
– First part of the title.
– Number of pages (see the Overige gegevens/Other Data field).
• Retrieved titles can be held for one day only. Make your selection from the list of found publications and click Bewaar item/Keep Item. A field with Bewaarde items/Kept Items will appear showing the number of kept items.
• Both publications and exhibitions have been entered using the Vubis Smart library information system. To search the database for information on Van Abbemuseum exhibitions, select Tentoonstellingen/Exhibitions in the Bestand/File field.
Searching online
Searching the online catalogue is presently limited because digitization of the data is still in progress. However, we have decided to make the entire database available despite its present shortcommings. If you fail to find what you are seeking of if you require more general information on artistic movements, subjects or artists, you can naturally approach out library staff directly.
