Lecture on Dieter Roth (Dutch Spoken)

By Jacqueline Nas

02/02/2012
19:00 - 21:00

Dieter Roth (Hamburg 1930- 1998) was undoubtedly one of the most remarkable and influential artists of the post-war generation. His significance for the development of the artist’s book as an independent art form earned him this creditable position, particularly in artistic circles.

Despite a number ofprestigious prizesand exhibitions, his extensive oeuvre is not very well known to the general public. He managed to capture the experimental character of the 1960s like no one else, with the use of the most wide-ranging, often organic materials and original printing techniques. He continued to add to his enormous collection of works on paper, many of which were in book form, up to the time of his death. An astonishing exhibition of the work of this original artist is currently on show in the library of the Van Abbemuseum. This lecture serves to explain and provide a more detailed understanding of this exhibition.
