The Great Public Sale of Unrealized but Brilliant Ideas
Dutch Design Week Auction
A live auction in which the public purchases artistic unrealized yet brilliant ideas.
Every artist and designer has a collection of ideas in store that for one reason or another have never been realized; because they’re too costly, too simple, too complex, too much like something that’s been done before, inappropriate, out of context or just out of this world... For these creative leftovers, Sarah Vanhee has created The Great Public Sale of Unrealized but Brilliant Ideas, a live auction in which the public is invited to bid and purchase these treasures. In this closing event of the Van Abbemuseum’s Take It or Leave It / Design Economics project, everyone is welcome to take part in a playful inquiry into the market and the production of value. Make choices, influence the scene and possibly become the proud owner of a raw diamond. The event will be hosted by a professional auctioneer, money will change hands, ideas will change owners - it’s a ‘you snooze you lose’ type of vibe, so better save your seat!
