With support of the Foundation Promotors Van Abbemuseum the museum recently bought the work 'Territory 1995' of the Slovenian artist Marko Peljhan. This work is a monument to a recent event that connects the Netherlands with Bosnia for ever. Marko Peljhan followed the war that went on in former Yugoslavia in the early ninetees and especially the genocide in Srebrenica where 8000 persons were killed by the Serbs. He brought together the colllected information on this military operation in the installation 'Territory 1995' and with this he created a labyrinth behind which the most unthinkable and unimaginable hides.

On the occasion of this new work in the collection the Van Abbemuseum organises a discussion with artist Marko Peljhan and Sefkija Hadziarapovic, an inhabitant of Srebrenica who escaped the atrocities. On request of the artist fragments of two documentaries by Leslie Woodhead will be shown. There will be short introductions from Charles Esche, director of the Van Abbemuseum and Dion van den Berg, senior advisor and programleader Srebrenica of IKV Pax Christi.

This discussion will take place on 17 June 2011 in the Van Abbemuseum and begins on 19.30 h. The entrance is free and the language is English. Reservations can be made via: reservation Srebrenica
