‘Maurits Script’ was recorded in a single day during a live public event in the Golden Room of the Mauritshuis in The Hague. This museum is situated in the house Johan Maurits van Nassau had built when he was governor of the Dutch possessions in Brazil (1637-1644). Van Oldenborgh’s work is based on a study of this period, in this work the difference between the official history and ‘unofficial’ tales become increasingly vague. Paradoxes and inner conflicts are illustrated from a variety of perspectives. The work also portrays the legacy of colonial history in the light of contemporary society.

The Van Abbemuseum recently acquired ‘Maurits Script’ and invited Van Oldenborgh to set it up in a Plug In. Van Oldenborgh is also taking part in the exhibition entitled ‘Be[com]ing Dutch’ (from 24 May), in which she will be displaying her ‘No False Echoes’ project.
